Help!! I need a little advice please.

So my issue is with HEXAGONS.
As you know I am doing the Craftsy BOM hosted by the lovely Amy Gibson of Stitchery Dickory Dock. You can see January's Blocks Here and one of February's Blocks Here. Sadly I'm a little behind. Trying to catch up, but you know how that is.

This month is all about hexagons which I have been wanting to try. So while I was out and about I stopped into Joann and found these little reusable hexagon templates. I thought perfect this will make my life so much easier. Well, I don't know about that. Each one is super smooth and slick and the fabric just slides all over it. Am I doing something wrong here? I read the directions and followed them, so what gives. To me it just seems like I wasted money & I hate wasting money! :( So if you have any pointers for those guys I'm all ears. I ended up printing the course materials out and just traced a bunch on some copy paper and then cut them all out. Long story short here are a few of my little hexies.

My issue is joining the cute little things together.

They look fine from far away

Amy said to whip stitch them together. I did, but mine don't look like hers :(  Here is a close up and you can see the stitches. Also she said to use coordiating thread, but what do you guys suggest if they are all drastically different colors?

Any thoughts would be so helpful. I really like these guys and want to get them finished.

I'm also linking up with Freshly Pieced WIP Wednesday. I hope your having a lovely day!

I can't wait for this baby to come out!!

Just a quick little post about something I'm super excited about!!
I have posted about the webisodes of Quilty before and really love what Mary does. She is really inspiring and such a fun person. It's funny I feel like we are friends that have just never met yet. If you watch her videos or have seen her on tv with her mom Marianne Fons you probably feel the same way. If you have not had the pleasure of any of this or think I'm a little weird please check out her videos and hopefully it will all make a bit more sense. :) So onto the great news. Mary and her amazing team are about to put out the first  Quilty Magazine!

I'm really excited about this and can't wait for it to hit news stands (I think it's May). She is a huge reason that I got into quilting in the first place. So thank you Mary for bringing some much needed coolness to the quilting magazine industry!

My Very First Quilt

So this is my very first quilt top. This is what started it all.
When I first decided that I wanted to attempt to make a quilt, I had no idea what I was doing! I didn't have any books, I wasn't reading any blogs at the time and I really had no idea what it took to complete a top; let alone finish a quilt. I just had an idea of what I wanted the blocks to look like and just started cutting pieces. I used some charm packs and a jelly roll I had and just started going to town. I started sewing the blocks up and really didn't understand the importance of seams. Who's going to see the back once it's covered up, right am I right? Live and Learn. Well, I finally finished the quilt top and then put it in a drawer where it sat until last week. I had cut some pieces and had also sewn up a few blocks for the back of the quilt, they were put into a drawer as well. Every time I thought about finishing the quilt, I would take it out and take one look at the back and get discouraged and put it back up. Well, it has been hanging over my head for over 2 years and I think that is long enough! So I pulled that bad boy out and took one look at the back and swallowed hard. I wasn't backing down. You cute thing are going to become a quilt this month!!! Ok so I got right to work with the back and cracked up at how bad the cutting is. It's really amazing how important cutting is. So I did my best with what I had and came up with this.
Don't look to closely at it :)

I will have to square it up or rectangle it up :) and then add a border and I should be done. I already have my batting ready to go. I can't believe I will finally have a completed quilt top. All I can say is it's about time. Here is to not being scared and enjoying the ride! So is there something that you have been putting off and afraid  to finish?
Take the bull by the horns and finish it off.
I hope your all having a fantastic day!

Don't You Just Love Food Mishaps?

I made pizza tonight for the fan. The boys had a pepperoni and cheese pizza and I made a veggie pizza for me.

Added a little Arugula for something extra

Speaking of Extra- All I wanted was a little red pepper. Just a little bit.

The whole lid popped off. That was all on my pizza and I tried to shake off as much as possible, but finally had to abandon that poor piece of pie. Note to self always check the lid, especially when little hands have been messing with them.

I'm Back And Sewing Summit....What!!!

Man it's so good to be back in the 21st century. About 2 weeks ago we had a black out for about 3 hours. Finally the power came back on, but we had no internet. I really don't know what happened and they couldn't figure out what was wrong over the phone. We were changing over all of our cable and internet services, but they couldn't get here until the 30th. No reason to pay someone to come have a look if we were getting rid of it anyway. I'm so glad to be back blogging and have a lot to catch up on. I have a lot of emails to catch up on, so if I haven't written you back yet I'm really sorry and I'm not ignoring you :)

So in other news: Who got tickets to the Sewing Summit? I was at my computer hitting refresh over and over and over again. The server must have had to much traffic and didn't work right at 9:00am. I closed and reopened their page and was able to get in. I don't think they were prepared for that much traffic or had any idea what the demand would be. It was all the awesome posts about this amazing conference and how much fun everyone had last year. They posted shortly after registration was opened on Facebook that they were shocked. They sold 100 tickets in 1 minute. I think that's so awesome. They sold out of tickets earlier this evening, I feel bad for all the people that were going to register tonight :( Maybe they will be able to add a few more seats.
I did do some sewing while all the shenanigans were going on with the internet.  Here are a few Farmer's Blocks that I got pictures of.

Block # 21 Contrary Wife

 Block #21 Cups and Saucers

I picked out the fabrics for this block and really didn't think it would be so busy. I like it, but it is really busy!!
I'm glad to be back and can't wait to post some of the projects that I worked on this last week. Stay tuned.
I'm also linking up with Lilys Quilts and Quilt Story. It's so much fun linking up and seeing whatever one has been creating and meeting new friends. I hope you guys are a wonderful week.
